James Nizam: Fata Morgana
Marshall Gallery is pleased to present the work of Vancouver-based artist James Nizam, his first presentation with the gallery. James Hussein Nizam (b. 1977) is a Canadian artist of Lebanese and British descent. His practice approaches photography as an expanded medium, engaging conceptual and interdisciplinary strategies that move beyond traditional forms of photographic representation.
Central to his work is the development of technically inventive, process-driven methods that challenge conventional image-making. The exhibition takes its name from a kind of mirage: the effect of light passing through a thermal inversion that creates the illusion of objects hovering above the horizon. The exhibition will consist of framed photographic prints alongside process-involved objects like ground glass, altered cameras, negatives and sketches. More at https://jamesnizam.com/
